Is XTB Safe?

XTB Group has an assortment of companies that are regulated by different regulators around the world.  XTB UK has been regulated by the FCA (license 522157) since 17/01/2011, and XTB Europe has been regulated by CySEC (license 169/12) since 18/04/2012.  XTB international is regulated by Belize International Financial Services Commission (license IFSC/60/413/TS/17) and is in the process of getting a license for the FSCA in South Africa.

XTB is recognised across the industry for the quality of the brokerage they run, collecting numerous awards in the last three years for Best CFD broker including Highest Rated FX & CFD Broker 2018 (Wealth and Finance awards) and Best CFD Broker 2017 (FinTech Awards).

XTB For Beginners

XTB has some of the best training material available for beginners. Its Trading Academy is structured into either topics or levels; it is clear and concise, and structured like a course.  One-to-one mentoring, dedicated account management and 24/7 customer service present XTB traders with a superior welcome and a fluid onboarding experience.

Educational Material

XTB offers a lot of well-structured training material for the beginner and intermediate trader.  Covering basic trading concepts including how the market works, and an overview of the risk associated with CFD trading, the education then moves into an overview of the xStation proprietary software solution that the company has developed and won several awards for.

The beginner and intermediate sections are open to the public, but expert training courses are available to all members with real accounts.  Webinars, as well as downloadable material, are found on the XTB website.

One-to-one mentoring lead by experts can be set up through your account manager.  These sessions coach traders with analysis, including risk management, psychology, and are tailored to the client’s needs.  The broker operates with an open door policy, meaning that anybody can visit their Canary Wharf offices or local branch.

Analytical Material

The majority of market news is open to all visitors and provides actionable trading information to traders. There is some premium education and analysis that is only available to real account holders.

XTB also offer a  market calendar, which is a comprehensive log of all scheduled macroeconomic releases and includes a potential impact rating and detailed historical data to assist traders in better predicting the result on corresponding markets.

A wide range of fundamental and technical analysis tools are available within the xStation platform, giving traders a comprehensive charting package to identify potential trading opportunities.

Customer Service

XTB operates a 24/7 customer support desk, with contact available via email, live chat, and phone support.  As mentioned, XTB also operates an open-door policy so customers can visit any of their offices.

Customer support is offered in English, Spanish, Arabic, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, German, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Romanian, and Hungarian.

Trading conditions

XTB is an ECN/STP broker, with simple account choices, and a wide variety of asset types for trade.  ECN/STP means the broker is either able to execute a trade directly on the market if liquidity is available or can act as the market and play counter-party should the liquidity not be available.

Account Types

All account types allow traders to trade Forex, Commodities, Indices, Cryptocurrencies, Stock CFDs, and ETF CFDs.  A Standard and Pro account type are available, both of which have market execution and xStation & MT4 platform compatibility.

XTB has a no re-quote policy and negative balance protection to ensure the client never owes the broker more than what has been deposited.

Leverage is limited to 1:30 inside the European Union, but international traders can receive up to 1:200 leverage. The minimum Forex and Crypto CFD trade size is 0.1 lot.

Standard Account

The standard account is the XTB commission-free account where all fees are included in the spread.  Besides the way the commission is charged, there is no difference between the Standard and the Professional accounts.

Professional Account

The professional account offers traders tighter spreads on currency pairs, in exchange for an additional commission from 2.50 GBP (4 USD) per lot on Forex and Cryptocurrency pairs.

Islamic Swap-Free Accounts

For International clients, commission and swap-free Islamic accounts are available, with a similar account setup to the standard account.  XTB won the award for Best Islamic Broker 2018 from Global Venture Awards.

Spreads and Commissions

The Standard account only charges Forex traders the spread, while the professional account charges a tighter spread and commission combination.  Spreads on the Professional account are from 0.1 pip.

Stock CFDs and ETF CFD traders should expect a commission from 0.08% per lot with all account types.

Trading Platforms

XTB supports MetaTrader4 and its in-house award-winning trading platform xStation 5.  Winning Best Trading Platform 2016 (Online Personal Wealth Awards) and Best Trading Platform 2017 (FX Cuffs Awards), XTB has successfully built a trading platform that is intuitive, powerful, and fast.

While xStation 5 offers many of the same advanced trading features found in MetaTrader 4, the xStation 5 platform adds the XTB touch.  It does this by introducing XTB sentiment data directly into the platform, so traders have a better view of the percentage of its clients who are long or short, and on which instruments. It also offers powerful charting tools, one-click trading, and real-time performance statistics so you can evaluate your trading and identify areas for improvement.

The MetaTrader 4 platform support will be appreciated by professional traders who will have used it in the past with other brokers.  Being familiar with MT4 will make the transition to or from XTB seamless, or will be an advantage if a trader is using multiple brokers simultaneously.

Mobile Trading Apps

Mobile versions of both the xStation5 and MetaTrader 4 application are available and seamlessly connect to the desktop versions of the application.  Mobile apps allow traders mobility for monitoring ongoing trades and taking advantage of unplanned news events that create market volatility.

Banking Options

Deposit and withdrawals are available via bank transfer, MasterCard, Visa, PayPal, Paysafecard, Maestro, Neteller, and Skrill.  Credit card and bank wire deposits are free of administration fees; however, e-wallet solutions will be charged 2% of the amount transferred.

Withdrawals are free and only be made via bank transfer.  To set up this transfer, a bank statement no older than 90 days must be submitted to XTB, and then the amount can be transferred.  This process has been created to ensure trader safety at the XTB, and to prevent money-laundering activity in line with regulations put in place by the FCA and CySEC.

Evaluation Method

We value transparency and openness in the way we review the partners. To bring transparency to the forefront, we have published our review process that includes a detailed breakdown of the XTB offering. Central to that process is the evaluation of the reliability of the broker, the platform offering of the broker and the trading conditions offered to clients, which are summarised in this review. Each one of these is graded, and an overall score is calculated and assigned to the broker.

FXTM Risk Statement

Trading Forex is risky, and each broker is required to detail how risky the trading of Forex CFDs is to clients. XTB would like you to know that: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 79% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

My thoughts

XTB is an excellent choice for beginner traders who want the additional educational material and support along with a trading platform that is less complicated then MetaTrader 4.  The product offering is not going to limit traders, making XTB a comfortable place to start a trading career.
